Who took the image? When and where was it made? What caught the photographer’s attention, and what did the moment mean to them?

For much of history, this context has depended on information being passed from one person to another. Details are often incomplete, uncertain or reconstructed much later. Even the date, location and attribution of a photograph may be difficult to confirm.

LifeBloc is a documentary and archival platform designed to create a more deliberate record. It keeps a photograph connected to the creator’s own account of the moment, while independent storage and blockchain records provide a durable, time-stamped history that can be traced and checked.

Blockchain cannot prove that every photograph or description is truthful, and it does not solve every question of authenticity. It can, however, provide clearer evidence of what was preserved, when it was recorded and how the record has been maintained.

The idea for LifeBloc grew from a fascination with history and photography, and the questions that remain when the stories behind old images have been lost. It began as a different way to record, preserve and display photographic work, while the memories and context surrounding each image are still available.
